Alianza Lima progressed to the final of the Peruvian Descentralizado tournament after downing Jose Galvez 1-0 on Sunday.
Gustavo Costa´s side, leaders of Group A with 75 points, sneaked past Jose Galvez with a strike from Wilmer Aguirre in the 86th minute.
Alianza Lima’s win ended Juan Aurich’s title hopes, despite beating Sporting Cristal 1-0 with a goal by William Chiroque. The win, however, leaves the ‘Ciclon’ a step away from securing qualification for the 2010 Copa Libertadores.
In another Group A clash, Cesar Vallejo beat Inti Gas 3-1, a result that qualified them for next year’s Copa Sudamericana. Argentine Roberto Demus scored twice for the ‘Poetas’ and the other was converted by Antonio Meza Cuadra. Inti Gas’ lone goal was scored by Jean Tragodara.
At the other end of the table, CNI defeated Sport Ancash 1-0 with a goal by Christopher Soto. With this result they avoided relegation to the second division.
Meanwhile, in Group B, Alianza Atletico could only manage a 2-2 draw with Bolognesi and remain in danger of dropping down to the second division. Bolognesi’s goals were scored by Jesus Rey and Jonathan Acasiete, while Colombian player Jonathan Rodriguez and Roberto Farfan scored for Alianza Atletico.
In a match played solely to comply with the fixture, Total Chalaco drew 2-2 with Melgar. Carlos Orejuela and veteran German Carty scored for the home side, while Paraguayan player Carlos Perez netted both goals for the visitors.
Universitario, who tops Group B with 81 points, thrashed Sport Huancayo 5-0. Brazilian player Ronnaille Calheira scored a double for the ‘U’ while their other goals were converted by Argentine Carlos Galvan and Mexicans Rodolfo Espinoza and Emmanuelle Cerda.
San Martin were held 1-1 by Cienciano in their visit to Cusco. Christian Cuevas put the away side in the lead in the first half, with Ernesto Arakaki scoring the equaliser for the home team in the 69th minute. This result seriously hampers the Santos’ chances of making it to the 2010 Copa Libertadores, as they no longer depend on themselves to qualify.
The next and final match-day will be played on Sunday, December 6.
