Transfers: Asprilla believes Scolari should lead Colombia

Former Colombian international Faustino Asprilla thinks that Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe Scolari would be the answer to his national team’s difficulties. Scolari would be at the top of the list if the Colombian FA chooses to hire a foreign coach in March, but that decision has not yet been made.

Many potential candidates, some of whom were foreigners, were discussed because Colombia was ousted from the World Cup following a very dismal World Cup qualifying campaign when Eduardo Lara was in charge.

The chosen manager of the national teams will be Francisco Maturana, who led Colombia to two World Cups—in Italy and the United States—as well as the 2001 Copa America championship.

Asprilla, who has a reputation for being quite critical of the Colombian national team, is aware that the team is not what it once was, and for this reason, he hopes they appoint Scolari.

“I hope he is Luiz Felipe Scolari if he is a foreigner. He would be Colombia’s ideal coach, and he is even more effective now that he is without a squad. We ought to be conversing with him by now. However, they won’t start phoning coaches until one week before the following World Cup qualifiers, according to Asprilla, who spoke to Futbolred.

“He [Scolari] is a winner,” Asprilla continued. He won the world championship with Brazil, finished second in Europe with Portugal, and is an experienced coach. Along with Gremio and Palmeiras, he also won the Copa Libertadores. Hope, fully he can visit us and provide some knowledge on Colombian football.

The last time Colombia qualified for the World Cup was in 1998, however, they had no success throughout the competition.
