Deportivo Quito has won back-to-back titles in Ecuador

After defeating Deportivo Cuenca 3-2 in the second leg of the championship match on Sunday, Deportivo Quito was declared the winner of Ecuador. The team from the capital of Ecuador won the championship thanks to two outstanding goals from Michael Arroyo and another from Daniel Mina. For Deportivo Cuenca, Edison Preciado and Ismael Villalba made conversions in the meanwhile.

Deportivo Quito won 4-3 overall after the first leg concluded in a 1-1 tie in Cuenca.

The team’s Argentine coach, Ruben Dario Insua, was about to resign after disagreeing with the board earlier in the season, but he did so because of the backing of the players and the supporters.

Ivan Borghello of Deportivo Quito, Marcelo Bohorquez, and Juan Guerron of Deportivo Cuenca were all dismissed by the match’s referee, Carlos Vera.

Deportivo Quito, who had previously won the championship in 1964, 1968, 2008, and 2009, won the Ecuadorian championship for the fourth time.
