Italian Serie A side Napoli have confirmed interest in Nacional attacking midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro, and are expected to make an offer for the player in the following days. After a reunion between directors from both clubs an agreement wasn´t reached.
However, negotiations are likely to continue until both parties are satisfied. Napoli believe Lodeiro has sufficient potential to make an impact at the club, and possibly become one of the Italian league´s top players.
Lodeiro, 20, played a key role as Nacional won the Uruguayan championship last season. He also helped Nacional reach the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores, South America´s biggest club competition. He also played his part in helping Uruguay qualify for the 2010 World Cup, after featuring in both legs of the qualification play-off against Costa Rica.
Despite attracting the attention of several European clubs, Lodeiro affirmed that his desire is to remain at Nacional until the end of the year. If he were to move abroad, possible adaptation problems could decrease his chances of finding a starting eleven position with Uruguay at the World Cup.
When in Uruguay, Napoli also showed an interest in Lodeiro´s Nacional team-mate Sebastian Coates. But Nacional are unlikely to sell the player just yet.
