Santiago Silva is transferred back to Velez Sarsfield

After finishing his first practice with the team in Necochea on Tuesday, Uruguayan attacker Santiago Silva has officially returned to Velez Sarsfield. The head of the Liniers club hopes to extend the player’s contract beginning in June of next year.

“I have faith that we will reach a compromise. Silva is already taking part in preseason practice with the team in Necochea, and we’ll talk to his agency, said club president Fernando Raffaini, speaking to DyN from Montevideo, Uruguay.

Silva went back to Velez after Banfield was unable to get him at the end of the previous campaign. The striker led the Apertura championship scoring statistics as Banfield won the tournament for the first time in their 113-year existence.

Thanks to the assistance of another Uruguayan striker, Rodrigo Lopez, Velez won the Clausura championship the previous season. Silva and Lopez are anticipated to constitute Velez’s front line for the 2010 Copa Libertadores and the Argentine title.
