Transfers: Santiago Silva returns to Velez Sarsfield

Uruguayan striker Santiago Silva has officially returned to Velez Sarsfield after completing his first training session with the club in Necochea on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the president of the Liniers club is hoping to extend the player´s stay at the club as from next June.

“I´m confident that we will come to an agreement. Silva is already participating in pre-season training with the squad in Necochea and we will speak to his agent,” Fernando Raffaini, the president of the club, told DyN from Montevideo, Uruguay.

Silva returned to Velez after Banfield failed to purchase the player after last season. The striker finished top of the scoring charts in the Apertura championship, as Banfield won the title for the first time in their 113-year history.

Velez won the Clausura championship last year, thanks to the services of another Uruguayan attacker — Rodrigo Lopez. Silva and Lopez are expected to be Velez´s front-line to confront the Argentine championship and the Copa Libertadores in 2010.
