Friendly: Argentina sneak past Jamaica

The Argentine national team — the home-based version — needed an injury-time goal to beat Jamaica 2-1 in an international friendly match at the Jose Maria Minella stadium in Mar del Plata on Wednesday night. Under Diego Maradona Los Albicelestes struggled to find their feet and were lucky to claim the victory at the end.

Ryan Johnson put Jamaica ahead in the first minute of the second half with a header, after poor marking from the vulnerable Argentina backline.

Argentina pushed for an equaliser, and it finally arrived in the 83rd minute when Boca Juniors striker Martin Palermo powered an impressive long-range header past Jamaica goalkeeper Dwayne Miller.

Three minutes into second half injury-time Ignacio Canuto took advantage of a series of rebounds inside of the area to fire home Argentina´s winning goal.

Even if Argentina ended up winning the match, their performance left a lot to be desired, and the fact that Maradona claimed that a number of players from the squad will participate in the 2010 World Cup means a lot of work needs to be done in the next few months.

Maradona is an idiot, why is he so proud of winning this pointless game, the only thing he got out of it is that palermo should be in the squad, who knows in the starting lineup?? other than that nothing
