Transfers: Boghossian pursued by Villa and Liverpool

Joaquin Boghossian, a striker from Uruguay, has caught the interest of English Premier League teams Liverpool and Aston Villa. The in-form Newell’s Old Boys striker is out for sale, and both Martin O’Neill of Aston Villa and Rafa Benitez of Liverpool are vying for his services.

Numerous European teams have expressed interest in the 22-year-old, according to the Uruguayan publication El Observador, but the two English clubs listed above have made the most specific offers to sign the youngster.

Boghossian, a 1.95-meter tall player who is owned by Cerro of Montevideo, is now on loan with Newell’s. He’ll hang around the Argentine club till the middle of the year.

The striker may play for Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa if he keeps scoring goals regularly.

Even though Boghossian and Diego Forlan have quite different playing styles, Liverpool and Aston Villa think he has the ability to emulate the Atletico Madrid great.
