Veteran playmaker of the Argentine national team, Juan Sebastian Veron, affirmed on Thursday that Los Albicelestes may not have a defined game plan, but they make up for this with one of the strongest attacks in world football. If they make the most of their many offensive options, Diego Maradona´s side could be a serious threat in South Africa.
“The national team may need some football (team-work and style), but the important thing is that we (have players who) can score goals, we have to know how to complement both things,” Veron declared to radio La Red.
With players of the quality of Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, Carlos Tevez, Diego Milito, Sergio Aguero and Martin Palermo, Argentina count with an abundance of options in their attack. If Veron is able to provide adequate service from the midfield, Argentina could be unstoppable.
The Estudiantes de La Plata captain is almost a lock to feature in another World Cup finals, and is surely part of the “fifty percent” of players who Maradona has already confirmed in his mind for the tournament.
“Bit by bit, and when a coach expresses himself in that manner, one thinks of the future, you pretty much confirm the base, and the margin gets smaller,” stated the player in relation to the fact that Maradona has made up his mind on at least half of the players who will make up his 23-man squad in South Africa.
Veron, who featured in two World Cups — 1998 and 2002 — is hoping to be in his best shape for the tournament, because “the World Cup is a very demanding tournament and one has to release the best that one has within.”

yeah i also rate this guy highly since the first time he played in boca, he was more of a defender back then from what i remember, he played with maradona, cannigia, and loads of other great players on that team.

I think that Argentina have a great attacking force but I think their problem is in the defence. The defendors in Argentina are very big headed and care more about their hair rather than winning matches.

I agree with Veron and many others, that Argentina’s current forward line up is very impressive, but i order to win the WC you need to havve a great midfiled. In my opinion, Riquelme, Cambiasso,Gago, or Aimar are better choices than Veron. Unfortunately, Riquelme is not going unless Maradona is replaced, and I’m not sure if these other great players are on Maradona’s top picks to go anymore.
