After resounding victories in round 14 of the season, Revelation teams Godoy Cruz and Argentinos Juniors rose to the top of the Argentine Clausura championship. Argentinos defeated Colon de Santa Fe 3-1, while Godoy Cruz destroyed Tigre 6-2. With just five rounds left in the season, both teams found themselves with 28 points, one point ahead of Estudiantes de La Plata and Independiente.
Godoy Cruz won easily thanks to three goals each from Francisco Dutari, Daniel Vega, and Leonardo Sigali, who also assisted on Rodrigo Salinas’ outstanding hat-trick. Godoy Cruz was initially promoted to the top division in 2006, however, they have never won the Argentine title.
Colon was defeated by Argentinos Juniors thanks to goals from internationals from Paraguay Nestor Ortigoza, Jose Luis Calderon, and Ismael Sosa.
Leandro Gonzalez scored twice for Estudiantes, which defeated Racing Club 4-0 at Quilmes Stadium. Clemente Rodriguez and Jose Sosa also scored.
The most popular team in Argentina, Boca Juniors, finally got back to winning with a convincing 4-0 victory over Arsenal de Sarandi in Roberto Pompei’s managerial debut. With two goals, Martin Palermo surpassed himself as Boca history’s leading scorer (220 goals). Juan Roman Riquelme and Cristian Chavez both recorded goals.
