Palermo scores the most goals in Boca history for Argentina

In the 10th minute of Monday night’s match between Boca Juniors and Arsenal de Sarandi at the Bombonera stadium in Buenos Aires, Martin Palermo became the club’s all-time leading scorer. Palermo pushed the ball into the goal after receiving a lovely side pass from playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme for his 219th official goal for Los Xeneize’s.

To surpass Roberto Cherro’s record and go down in Boca history, Palermo had to wait for exactly 360 games. When Cherro scored his 218th goal in September 1938, it took another 72 years for someone to outscore him.

In September 1997, “The Titan” made his debut for Boca in front of the team, and he hasn’t stopped since. His choice to spend a significant portion of his career playing for the same club aided in his achievement.

Five minutes into the second half, Boca had a 3-0 advantage over Arsenal. This is Roberto Pompei’s first game with the team. In the 12th minute of the game, Cristian Chavez scored Boca’s second goal, and Riquelme added a third four minutes into the second half.
