America de Cali is having major financial issues in Colombia

Thirteen-time America de Cali, the defending Colombian champions, is in a severe financial problem since it cannot afford to meet the standards of a professional football team for its players. Since they haven’t received their pay in five months, the American squad members find it hard to attend their normal training sessions.

Gilberto and Miguel Rodriguez, two brothers, ruled America for many years before being caught trafficking drugs, which resulted in their imprisonment. They haven’t been able to pay their players as a result.

It has gotten to the point where the team is considering holding raffles or creating an account to accept gifts and money from supporters.

“We should discuss right now. The Uruguayan goalkeeper Alexis Viera, who recently made headlines for saving two penalties and scored the game-winning conversion when his team defeated Millonarios, claimed: “They don’t pay us, and now we don’t have anything to eat.

According to sources, a big portion of America’s problems stems from the fact that many of the club’s administrators are involved in drug trafficking and have been suspected of collecting considerable sums of money through the club’s sale of important players’ rights.

Miguel Rodriguez, one of the alleged offenders, was charged with hoarding the equivalent of $4.5 million in player transfers. Rodriguez, though, refuted every allegation.

America, four-time Copa Libertadores champions, are now 16th out of 18 teams in the top division of Colombia, with just three victories in their last 13 games.
