Transfers: Roma target Flamengo striker Adriano

Adriano could complete a future move to AS Roma

Italian Serie A runner-ups AS Roma have confirmed interest in Flamengo striker Adriano, a player who they have been tracking for some time now. Adriano has attracted the attention of several European clubs since returning to Flamengo from Inter Milan last year, but after having cured his alcohol addiction the player assures that he is once again ready to play in Europe’s top leagues.

On Monday Rosella Sensi, the female president of Roma, confirmed her desire to count with the Brazilian next season, even if she admits that the club are currently experiencing financial issues.

“We are working, I am conscious that it isn’t an easy moment, and we aren’t in the position to spend large sums of cash,” Sensi affirmed to a local radio station, in relation as to whether Roma will have sufficient funds to count with the player next season.

Adriano, 28, hasn’t renovated his existing Flamengo contract and he will miss the 2010 World Cup, after having failed to make Dunga’s 30-man squad for the tournament.

Having played for Inter Milan, Fiorentina and Parma, Adriano will have no trouble adapting to the Italian game, and this improves the chances of a future transfer to the club from the Italian capital.

Roma have already assured themselves of another Brazilian, Fabio Simplicio, who recently signed a three-year contract with the club.
